All Open Mic, Real Connections: Sacramento’s Business Networking Morning
September 19, 20254 min read
A friendly, open-mic meetup where owners and founders introduced their work, traded contacts, and left with new ideas. Twenty people came, eight spoke, and many met the right next person.
People & Purpose
A Business Networking Event took place on September 7 at 1 Capitol Mall, Suite 300, Sacramento.
The meetup was co-organized by Maryna Slyzhuk, Business Development Manager at SapientPro, and Modesto Tomeldan, an entrepreneur in insurance who offered the venue and welcomed guests.
The goal was practical: hear what small and mid-sized businesses in Sacramento are building, understand their challenges, and connect people who could help one another. Attendees ranged from early-stage teams to established owners.
What We Did
- Opened the floor. We ran an open microphone with 10-minute slots so attendees could introduce their business, services, or idea.
- Shared our work. We used our slot to introduce SapientPro and briefly walked through one case study on SDS document automation.
- Made follow-ups easy. QR codes linked to the SapientPro website and to Maryna Slyzhuk’s LinkedIn for quick contact.
- Offered help. Free consultations were available for technical questions or a light audit.
- Kept the setting comfortable. A modern downtown space with views of the Sacramento Golden Gates and the highway, plus tea, coffee, snacks, and time to talk. A thank-you email and video recording went out after the event.
What Was Different
Unlike prior Sacramento meetups, the open microphone was the centerpiece. Many newcomers wanted a chance to speak, be visible, and be heard. The format matched that need and encouraged more voices.

Outcomes That Matter
The mix included startups of 7–10 people and established leaders, among them a broker and a real estate owner. The combination made peer learning immediate. New founders who arrived with doubts left with practical advice and a clearer path.
Three industries were most represented: real estate, insurance, and healthcare.
Topics that surfaced repeatedly:
- Marketing. Competing for attention in a crowded market; using Facebook ads, LinkedIn personal branding, and regular networking.
- Hiring. Looking for the right mix of hard skills and soft skills.
- AI. Where automation helps and where human judgment remains essential.
Several participants were seeking specific contacts. Matches were made in the room, including loan officers and a real estate agent. Many attendees expressed gratitude for the chance to introduce themselves and to trade cards and social links.

How We Keep Our Promises
Planning comes first. Expectations are set, and follow-ups happen.
The same discipline guides client work as well: clear scope, honest pricing, steady communication, and no surprises.
Voices
Most people were just starting, with teams of seven to ten. They had doubts. Hearing from successful owners in the room gave them a lift.

Every meetup feels warm, with open, friendly faces, conversations, new connections, thoughtful questions, exchanged cards, and everyone making the most.

Big thanks to the organizers for making it happen; you never know where a simple weekend visit can truly lead.

What’s Next
Many founders shared that the pace of building leaves them tired. A future meetup may add a short wellness breather to help people reset. The team is also exploring a block on finding motivation and energy in a busy season.
With a move underway, upcoming meetups will shift to Los Angeles while keeping the open-mic format that worked in Sacramento.
